Danny
and the Ocean is a heart-warming short film about a boy and his desire to
visit the ocean. Set in the urban environment of New York City, this film shows the journey
of 10 year old Danny (Jonathen Jimenez) as he is
neglected by his busy mother, Marta (Nadia Asencio).
Looking for attention, Danny retreats into a fantasy world within his
bedroom. A world made fun by his companion, Jyotish
(Julian James) who claims not to be imaginary but rather a guardian angle. It
is Jyotish who ignites Danny's attraction to the
ocean and sends him on a quest to get there with or without the help of his
mother. After a broken promise, Danny gives up on Marta and steals off into
the night under the protection of one of his favorite toy masks. The film has
a lot of magical elements in it and is exemplified by the interesting
characters Danny comes across. Marta eventually faces the reality of her
negligence as Danny must make some choices about what he is really looking
for. In essence, the story is a parable for life, love, and happiness. The
'ocean' is a metaphor meaning something different to everyone who views the
film. However, the location of that 'ocean,' we find in the end, is
universally true for all.

Carissa Pelleteri

A
Brooklyn, N.Y. native, Carissa Pelleteri's
photographs reflect her fondest memories of the past - the innocence of the
school girl and her older generation mixed with a contemporary street sense.
Carissa began looking at magazines at the age of 8 and that was the beginning
of a life-long fascination with photography. Her magazine collection started
in 1983. She first picked up the camera at around age 10, only to document
and play with images of her world. In 2000, she graduated from F.I.T with a
degree in Photography.
Photographing while working as a professional color printer for prestigious
labs has enabled Carissa to develop a strong sense of color. This is constant
throughout her work.
Carissa's work has appeared in BlackBook, Bust,
Trace, Time Out NY, Heeb, K48
and Lodown. Clients include Simon and Schuster,
Penguin Publishing and Kill Rock Stars. Her work has been shown in galleries
such as Deitch Projects, D'Amelio
Terras, The Artists Space and Agnes B Gallery, Paris.

What
inspired me to do this project on Catholic School Girls was one, my love of
uniforms and two i wanted to see the differences in
attitudes and conservatism between girls living in suburban and urban areas.
Their views on religion, school, and how their uniform affected them
personally. Basically what is was like being a teenager attending catholic
school.
The girl with the black bike: It is was a
representation of myself at
the time. 1) 16x20 girls in the creek (2) 11x14 a girl with a black
bike. (3) 8x10 for you one girl with the fence and

Clara Kagan

traditions.

Fakhiza Feddal
|
Ms. Fakhiza Feddal is a paralegal
and specialized in Immigration law. She has assisted asylum and refugee
seekers with adjusting their legal status though a non for profit
organization in New York
for 5 years.
As an artist, Fakhiza always tried to combine
Muslim tradition with the modern world to find the perfect balance in order
to adapt to any culture or
situation.
Sufism*
is the key to her being successful in her quest for stability *Sufism
(Arabic: ف - taṣawwuf, Turkish:
tasavvuf, Persian: صوفیگری, sufigari) is generally understood by scholars to be the
inner or mystical dimension of Islam. A practitioner of this tradition is
generally known as a Sūfī (Arabic: ِيّ),
though some senior members of the tradition reserve this term for those
practitioners who have attained the goals of the Sufi tradition. Another
common denomination is the word Dervish (derived from Persian: درویش - darwīš).
|
ffeddal2001@yahoo.fr
|
Ms. Feddal wanted to reproduce her state of mind through her
paintings by combining ancient Kufic script with
modern Arabic calligraphy and impressionism. Each painting symbolizes one or
several names of God (whom in Islam has 99 and each represent a divine
quality) to bring serenity to its owner. The money generated from the sales
will contribute to promoting cultural exchange and peace among religions, inshallah!

George
Shafer
|
Nationality:
American, Currently Residing: White Plains, New York, Age: 26 George was born and raised outside of
Philadelphia, PA. From an early age he was
intrigued with art and began copying cartoons. Fully realizing his
passion for painting under Karen Smallen, Art
Director at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, George quickly became known in his
local community for his unique painting style. Upon graduation he was
the only art student in his class accepted to Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Arts, affiliated with University
of Pennsylvania.
However, George decided on business school because he believed that painting
was his pastime and he didn’t want it to become his job. George
attended Boston
University and pursued
his other passion, traveling, during and after studies. Unable to paint
while traveling he took up photography to try and capture the amazing scenes
he desperately wanted to paint. He has been to 6 continents and over 30
countries, and not once did he leave his camera at home.

has no formal training in photography; he interprets a scene with the camera
the same way he would interpret it with a canvas.

Nguyen
Tran/DJ Godjothai
|
Since
the age of 10, he had the musical instinct to make people dance during big
family meetings. Preferring music to university, he drew attention to
himself during Leonardo de Vinci’s School parties, where he succeeded to
Martin Solveig’s residency by introducing a RnB session for the first
time. He carried on parties on the biggest Parisian night clubs (Queen, Wagram, Duplex, Garden,
Six Seven…). 2002 : Dj Godjothai becomes a resident
Dj in the Freedom, an Irish pub with a strong Rock
background. As one goes along, he introduces House and Hip-Hop sets there,
making him able to become more eclectic because he can mix up funk, disco and
RnB music during the same night. That’s where he
got to know Dj Spicy which will introduce him to
World Music. Two years later, as a resident Dj
of the Asian Club, Dj Godjothai
adds up RnB and House sessions to the usual lounge
music played there. He is also in charge of musical programming during Asian
Club private parties, with partners such as Casting Mag,
NRJ Asian Star or Radio FG. Being a big fan of 96/97 RnB music, he makes a mixtape
named “Yen Na”, with a collaboration of Big Ali (Rock this Party). All the
hits of that period can be found there (SWV, Yvette Michelle, Alfonso
Hunter…). In addition, his Dj Crew (Dj Nosta, Dj
Assad, Dj Milouz) participated on the mixtape.
2005 : Destination Los Angeles to make the warm up of the
Viper Room (Johnny Depp’s local), and the Mood, a
night club located on Hollywood
Boulevard. During the Feria
Milano, Dj Godjothai is
invited to Italy
for a musical event in relation with the Asian Club. 2006
: New York
!!! Big Apple opens its doors with a residency in the Lotus, a place know for
having international stars as regular customers. Dj
Godjothai multiplies his appareances
with Massaï’s Prod events in Martinique.
He also starts working on musical production (House and RnB)
while continuing his residency at the Asian Club. Dj
Godjothai works as sound’s producer for the most
popular radio show in France (RTL) with Laurent Boyer. 2007 : Dj Godjothai
is resident Dj on the prestigious “Bal de l’Eté” in Monaco,
in the presence of Prince Albert.
On the other hand, he launches mix sessions named “Mashup”
in Lotus Club (NYC), and he also mixes live from Brooklyn
for Skyrock Radio in Dj
Spank’s (NTM, B.O.S.S.) show. In Paris,
Dj Godjothai enlives the biggest asian parties in the city, specially Asia Folie’s ones. This fame allowed him to perform in Saigon’s VIP Club, in his country of origin.
